Recently, at the beginning of November, the Go-Lab project held a workshop on “Inquiry Learning with Online Labs” in the scope of the 14th International Conference on Web-based Learning (ICWL 2015) in Guangzhou, China. The overall objective of the workshop was to bring experts and TEL audience from academia and industries together to discuss on research advances in inquiry learning.
The workshop began with a discussion about how Inquiry Based Learning and STEM are computationally supported in the participating countries of the session (China, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, USA, Slovenia, France, Spain and Germany). Thereafter, an introduction of the Go-Lab project and a group activity followed. The workshop finished with a wrap-up reflecting on issues like the pedagogical approaches used to teach STEM, the technological limitations of school infrastructure, the general STEM curriculum or the privacy and legal issues regarding user tracking and data storage.
The three main goals of the session, to get a better picture on inquiry learning methods with online labs in Europe and Asia, to introduce the Go-Lab project at non-European schools and to find collaborators such as lab owners, STEM app developers, or teachers interested in using Go-Lab in their class, could be reached successfully.
