2nd Go-Lab Summer School 2014

  • Past Events

The 2nd Go-Lab Summer School was carried out in Marathon, Greece from July 13th to July 18th, 2014. The 39 Participants came from different regions of Europe. 31 of them were the winners of the “Teaching through Inquiry” Contest that took place from January to April 2014. The Summer School shaped a great opportunity for the participating teachers to share their experiences and ideas through the six days of training course.

To be well prepared for the Summer School, the teachers were asked to get ready for the course about a month prior to coming to Marathon. A special space in the Go-Lab Portal was created for the Summer School for an easy exchange of ideas and information (program, questionnaires, tutors’ presentations, etc.). This way the teachers had not only the opportunity to share their ideas but also to use their own personal space in the Portal to upload and store their lesson plans and accompanying materials.

During their stay in Marathon, the participants were able to listen to many interesting talks about STEM education, astronomy and other science subjects; they became acquainted with Go-Lab in general and the inquiry learning method; later they learned to build their own Inquiry Learning Spaces using the Go-Lab Portal and they also learned more about the additional tools of the Go-Lab Repository. The program was complemented with field trips and extra activities like visits of the Ellinogermaniki Agogi school and its observatory to show how to combine online learning methods such as the use of online labs with real-life experience like visiting museums and observatories. Visits to cape Sounio and to the museum of Acropolis as well as to the Acropolis itself were also parts of the extra activities.
