The 10th edition of the IPPOG (International Particle Physics Outreach Group) International Physics Masterclasses finished:

Go-Lab and it’s labs were successfully introduced in student and teacher sessions of the 2014 Masterclasses organized by IASA. Four masterclasses took place in Greek Universities (Athens and island of Crete) and at CERN between March 28th and April 12th, 2014.

The IASA specialicts showed the students how to conduct basic research on the fundaments of matter and physical forces. The students also got an opportunity to experiment and perform measurements on real data from the ATLAS Experiment using HYPATIA event analysis tool. The wrap-up of the Masterclasses was formed by a video conference with scientists from CERN offering a discussion and combination of the students’ results.

During the students’ interactive hands-on session, the teachers were closely introduced to the Go-Lab Project by Prof. C. Kourkoumelis and got a live demonstration of the Inquiry Learning Space called “Measurement of magnetic field with the gigantic ATLAS detector”. The teachers’ feedback was very positive and promised cooperation in using the Go-Lab labs in school classes.
