The Go-Lab lesson plans were demonstrated in HYPATIA Masterclass in a Greek High School in Katerini, Greece on 11th March 2014. About 45 students with their teachers participated in this interactive event where they had the chance to perform hands-on exercises processing data from ATLAS experiment at CERN.
After a brief introduction to the physics of the ATLAS experiment, a live connection with the Control Center of the ATLAS experiment at CERN gave the students the opportunity to learn more about the instrumentation used in the experiment. The students could ask questions to one of the scientists at CERN. At the same time, eleven more schools across Greece and Cyprus participated in the online event.
The last part of the day, after a detailed introduction to the HYPATIA software and the Go-Lab lesson plans based on HYPATIA, consisted of the analyzing the ATLAS data and getting a hands-on experience with the software by the students. The Masterclass ended with a very enthusiastic attitude of the students and a great interest of the teachers in using the lesson plans in their classes.
