The Haus der Astronomie (House of Astronomy) is a unique Centre for Astronomy Education and Outreach in Heidelberg, Germany. It was founded 2008 by the Max Planck Society e.V. for the Advancement of Science (Germany's leading organization for basic research) and the Klaus Tschira Foundation gGmbH. The Heidelberg University and the City of Heidelberg, as well as the State of Baden-Wurttemberg's ministries for research and for education are additional partners of the Haus der Astronomie (HdA).
The main aim of HdA is to share the fascination of astronomy and astrophysics with a broad audience and, in particular, with young people and to enrich the communication between astronomers and their colleagues in other scientific disciplines. To reach this goal, HdA organizes national and international workshops and events for students of different ages as well as training courses for teachers. HdA develops visualizations of astronomical phenomena and concepts, supports students’ research projects and the media in their coverage of astronomical topics.
The Haus der Astronomie is fully committed to collaborate with Go-Lab through the Faulkes Telescope Project (FTP) in promoting and deploying inquiry learning with online labs at schools. They help Go-Lab/FTP in defining and developing the resources that are going to strengthen the students’ interest and consolidate their competence in science.
